226 4th St NE #1:
This large apartment - three blocks to the Capitol, three blocks to red line metro at Union Station, and eight blocks to orange and blue lines - is a charming exposed-brick English basement apartment with windows on three sides, a great open floorplan, separate entrance, and fronts on Stanton Park. One of our largest furnished apartments, we hope this property will provide a convenient and interesting temporary lodging experience while you stay in Washington DC.
For those not familiar with English basement apartments - this is the first floor of the building. It's a very common layout in DC. Almost every townhouse has one. It has a separate entrance from the rest of the building (top three floors of this building are one residence), allowing for great privacy. It's partially below grade.
This particular one has windows on three sides that are fully above grade, giving you far more light than a traditional English basement may.
The apartment is directly across the street from Stanton Park, and is literally around the corner from several great restaurants, one block to a corner store, and three blocks to Union Station and Metro.
Stanton Park is very popular with dog owners. It also has a very nice playground (maintained by the National Park Service).
All windows in this apartment are triple-paned for noise reduction. This property is on a busy street, so we put in triple-paned windows. We have never had a tenant say noise was an issue, but if you are an extremely light sleeper this may not be the property for you. The Capitol Hill Stay owners live in the main house, with the original single pane windows, and have not felt the need to upgrade. We mention this only to err on the side of caution.
The US Senate Daycare is across the street, and there are two US Capitol Police officers stationed literally forty feet from this apartment at all times.
Pricing is determined by length of stay, time of year, apartment availability, and other factors Rates begin at $4250 a month and are usually keyed to be within the US government per diem rate. Please inquire for details.

The apartment is at the ground level of the brick house directly in front of you.
The large building across the street has two US Capitol Police officers in it at all times.
Capitol Hill Stay has recently renovated a garden-level 2 bedroom, 1 bath unit in a large, castle-like building right on the park.
Terrific location, in a very energized area. Easy three block walk to Union Station metro (red line). 1 block from major bus service lines. Ten minute walk to Orange/Blue metro lines at Capitol South. Right around the corner from Massachusetts Avenue restaurant row.
This apartment has a new designer kitchen with designer shaker maple cabinets, granite countertops, slate floors, and new appliances.
The living and dining room area is a large, open space, with direct open access to the kitchen. It has exposed brick walls, built in bookshelves, and a charming round turret. The apartment has brand new high-end room-specific central air and heat (can be controlled individually in each room).
The apartment gets a lot of light, as the building is a corner building, with windows on three sides. Both bedrooms have several windows, and the living area has five windows.
The bath is brand new, with a large deep jetted soaker tub, marble and glass tub surround, and marble floors.
For those not familiar with English basement apartments - this is the first floor of the building. It's a very common layout in DC. Almost every townhouse has one. It has a separate entrance from the rest of the building (top three floors of this building are one residence). It's partially below grade. This particular one has windows on three sides that are fully above grade, giving you far more light than a traditional English basement may. The ceilings are a bit lower than normal - around 7 feet. One of the advantages of an English basement apartment is that it has considerably more room, as there's no need for a staircase.
Apartment has a 37 inch flat screen Toshiba TV with HBO/Showtime, a full HD channel package, and Tivo-like DVR (digital video recorder).
If you are an extremely light sleeper this may not be the apartment for you, as this is a corner property near a busy street. Brand new triple pane windows have been put in, but if you are looking for absolute quiet this apartment will not work for you. The owner of Capitol Hill Stay lives in the main house and has not found street noise to be an issue.
Apartment has direct access to a fully landscaped patio.
Apartment is fully furnished, using high quality furnishings.
High speed WiFI internet and private DSL line is provided.
As I get ready to move out on Saturday I just wanted to thanks you for your wonderful service.
With all the new furnishings, artwork and household items provided I totally felt at home within days!... It showed so nice that I was very proud to show it off to my IRS co-workers and friends that came to visit. Also, you warned me that it could be a noisy apartment...
Well it was not true.... you only have an afternoon commute between 4p-6pm that I noticed... beyond that, I never noticed any noise. The walk to the Redline only took a few minutes and for my work the Orange/Blue line only was a 15 min. walk. Finally thanks for showing me the great dining options around the corner... The Indian, Italian,Mexican and German foods were awesome!

My living experience at 4th and C NE was fantastic! I was about two blocks away from the Hart Senate Office Building. My walk to work took about 10 minutes, on a bad day. So many people in DC have to compete with monster commutes, it was so nice to be able to walk out the door and be at work quickly…and get home quickly!
There is also great access to the Washington DC Metro Rail. Union Station is about a 10 min walk, which makes life easy when traveling to Regan National Airport, or even BWI (MARC train runs to Baltimore)! We were right across the street from Stanton Park, which was perfect for walking our dog. I have to say that our living conditions were not only logistically pleasing, but stylish and comfortable as well. We LOVE to cook, so the upgraded kitchen was a huge plus! Comfort and good location are hard to find in this city, I wouldn’t pass this place up! ----

First, I want to apologize for my delay in thanking you for hosting me this past year. The task of finding temporary lodging in the DC area seemed daunting at the outset. Fortunately, those worries quickly subsided when I came across Capitol Hill Stay. It didn't take me long to make a decision where to call home for most of 2009. I was on loan to the U.S. Senate and working on health care reform for most of 2009. Your website provided an honest view of each of your facilities.
As you know, I chose 226 4th St NE, Apt 1!
I thought I'd point out a few of my favorites regarding my apartment. The number one thing I liked about my apartment was the location. I was within a few blocks of everything (i.e. Senate buildings, Supreme Court, Union Station, Eastern Market, kid friendly park, restaurants, The Capitol, Metro stops, mail drop off, grocery stores and the dry cleaners. I also appreciated the cleanliness and contemporary feel of the apartment (i.e. the granite counter tops, stainless steel appliances and up-scale furniture). I also liked that I could get a hold of you quickly for routine maintenance issues when necessary.
I might point out that although the apartment is on a busy street, it is well policed. I have two small kids that stayed with me almost half of the 9 months I was on the Hill. We crossed the street to the park almost daily without one single incident. Law enforcement's presence kept the speeding to a minimum and vandals at bay. The fact that the Capitol Police are well camped out on most corners in that area speaks volumes for the security and orderliness of the environment. I couldn't have felt more safe with my family in tow.
Please feel free to use all or a part of this brief "thank you" as you see fit. I know my stay and work on the Hill wouldn't have been as enjoyable had I not stayed in a safe, clean and ideal place such as yours at 226 4th Street! My only regret is not having the money to buy it and stay forever!
My husband and I used Capitol Hill Stay for a few weeks in Sept/Oct 2013 during our move back to D.C. before our household goods arrived. Brian was always very accommodating of our needs and responded quickly to every email communication I sent regarding our move in/ move out.
The process of signing the agreement paperwork and making payment was so easy I could take care of it from my smartphone. A big plus! Andre, the property manager, was extremely courteous and helpful showing us the apartment and ensuring we were settled.
The apartment had all of the amenities we needed plus the bed and furniture were very comfortable. The locations of their apartments are within a short walking distance to a couple metro stations and to many eateries, cafes, bars, and services. Highly recommend Capitol Hill Stay!!!

I enjoyed my stay quite a bit. The apartment is centrally located, has easy parking and metro access to both the blue and red lines. Unlike other furnished properties, I felt like I was living in a real home and appreciated the quick response whenever I mentioned an issue. I highly recommend CHS for a brief stay in DC. Just pack your clothes and forget about the rest.

My experience with CHS has been great. The owners and staff are extremely helpful and accommodating. The location of the apartment is very convenient. It is situated in a historic and charming neighborhood, blocks away from the lovely Capital Hill Offices and a short walk to Union Station. Basically once can easily walk and go anywhere!
The flat is clean with nice furniture, has appliances of highest quality but mostly the charm created with every single detail. It makes one truly feel at home. I highly recommend using CHS and staying in their lovely properties during a short visit or as a longer term residence option in DC.

Great place to stay for our semester in DC. We really appreciated your quick response whenever we had a question or need. We will definitely recommend Capitol Hill Stay to anyone looking for short term housing in DC.
