This is the largest and most unique apartment CHS has. This apartment was totally renovated and used as the CHS owner's residence.

The kitchen and bath facilities are well beyond what a typical apartment usually offers. It is the second and third floors of a historically protected pitched-roof building built in the 1860s. As such, there are some unusual aspects. The front stairway to the main floor of the apartment is original and is fairly steep, so this apartment may not be suitable for those with limited mobility. The building has the original pitched rooflines, so both bedroom ceilings slope to one end, creating an unusual cozy feel.

The kitchen, living room, and smaller bedroom (or office) are on one floor. The large bath and large bedroom are on the top floor.

There are other unusual designer touches, such as the specialty wrought iron stairwell railing and exposed wood beams.

This apartment has a private roof deck with stairs to a landscaped, fenced backyard and patio.

Features include:

  • GE Profile appliances (side-by-side refrigerator with icemaker, electric convection oven with gas range, large built-in
    microwave)
, maple cabinets, tumbled marble countertops
  • High end spacious bath with separate tiled jacuzzi bath, separate tiled shower, dual pedestal sinks
  • Kitchen and living room floors are Brazilian cherry with maple inlay
  • Furnished with highly carved mahogany furniture, Asian antiques, traditional leather couches
  • Satellite television with multiple HBO/Showtime, plus DVR
  • Dedicated high speed cable line for internet access, plus WIFI
  • Private rooftop deck
  • Bedrooms floors are high end specialty patterned carpet
  • Lots of light
  • Good-size main bedroom with very nice highly carved mahogany queen bed
  • Second bedroom set up to be either bedroom or office, with Chinese elm desk, high quality solid wood futon sofa with high quality innerspring mattress (can be made into comfortable full-size bed), and large mahogany storage chest (drawers on bottom, hanging area on top)
  • Queen sleeper sofa in living room
  • Central air and heat
  • Full-size washer/dryer in bath, convenient to bedroom

Tenant Comments

I rented from Capitol Hill Stay for almost nine months beginning in July, 2010. I stayed at 11 Second Street NE and at 406 E. Capitol Street NE. Both apartments were very nicely furnished and the locations are impossible to beat. You can walk to three of the Metro lines (Orange, Blue & Red), Amtrak (Union Station), Nationals Park, the Capitol complex, churches of all denominations, Eastern Market and Barracks Row as well as the Mall. For children, there are numerous neighborhood parks.

The rent includes all utilities, cable/satellite TV and wireless internet. The landlord is extremely responsive and helpful and accepts the State Department per diem. Head and shoulders above Oakwood. I highly recommend Capitol Hill Stay.

We used Capitol Hill Stay for one month this summer when my son was working in Washington, D.C. as a Senate Page. Brian and Andre took great care of us. We stayed at 406 East Capitol Street NE #2. After we moved in, Andre noticed that the new Vizio HD TV could be hooked up to the internet so we could access NetFlix and he took care of that so my family could watch movies while they were in D.C. He also provided extra towels and bedding when he found out we were using the pull-out couch.

The house is in a perfect location for people working on Capitol Hill...it is only a 3 block walk to the Capitol. There is a good dry cleaner right across the street and two small grocery stores on the adjacent street corners. The house was clean and well appointed with a new Bosch wash and dryer and dishwasher.

I would definitely use Capitol Hill Stay again if i needed short-term housing in D.C. They do all the little and big things that make all the difference in making you feel at home.

It has been a good wonderful living experience with Capitol Hills Stay. The apartment is which we stayed was spacious, clean and very much central with easy access to metro and super markets. We would definitly like to return back and recommend to family and friends.

It was great to stay in this furnished apartment rather than an extended stay hotel. The neighborhood is beautiful and I felt very much at home in the apartment. I would recommend CHS to anyone traveling to DC for an extended stay. CHS was incredibly responsive and accommodating to my needs, staying here made my business trip feel like vacation!
