This charming property isn't an apartment - it's a cozy two story carriage house. It has it's own backyard and private entrance.
As such it provides a very unusual furnished apartment experience that is hard to come by in the Washington DC furnished lodging market. It provides a totally different experience than staying in a traditional DC corporate apartment.
This carriage house was built in the 1880s. At the time of it's creation it would have housed an artisan worker of some sort, or perhaps a blacksmith shop or other small neighborhood-based business. Many of these were torn down in years past, so the few that remain are highly sought after.
The first floor is open, with a living/dining area and a full kitchen. The second floor has an open bedroom, large closet, and bath. This house a private bricked backyard and garden. Features include:
I was a part-time tenant at Miller's Court from November 1, 2003 until October 1, 2007. During that time my job required me to spend about 70 percent of my time in DC (I am based in Midwest). As anyone who travels for business knows checking in and out of hotels can be stressful. My home away from home was perfect. Given the close proximity to Capitol Hill and subway stations made it ideal. The neighborhood was charming and most importantly extremely safe. Many evenings at 9:00 or 9:30 I would walk to Starbuck's for a cup of coffee and never have to be concerned about my well-being. It is also the most perfect neighborhood for anyone who wants to walk for exercise. Everything you need is accessible by foot, subway or taxi. The best thing about Miller's Court is the attention to all details by the owners. The furnishings are wonderful and they are quick to respond to any concern or questions.
I spent 5 months there, from snowy winter to hot early summer: a perfect place in all seasons; one can walk everywhere, catch a metro to anywhere; top restaurants all around; gym close by as well as organic markets; the carriage house has a lovely private patio and top range furnishings. Fast and free internet. Direct TV with European programs. It is perfectly quiet, and each time you step out on the main street, the Capitol dome is right there. Owners are attentive and throrough. In sum: perfect for a single person or a couple for an extended stay. Highly recommended. I travel extensively and am able to compare!
I was lucky enough to stay at two Capitol Hill Stay locations for a few weeks each, and the experience was exactly what I wanted and expected based on all other reviews. The location itself was perfect, being a brief walk to the most iconic areas of the city. Everything was in walking distance, and the neighborhood was very enjoyable. The buildings were both very nice and cozy, well furnished, and had all the essentials, such as extra towels and sheets. My five week stay gave me the experience of a lifetime, one that I was lucky to spend here.

The carriage house I lived in was great, and my experience with CHS was couldn't have been better. Anything I had questions about or needed, they were very prompt with responding.
The carriage house was in a great location. It's walking distance from multiple metros and there are so many shops close by (and Eastern Market, which I highly recommend), I rarely needed to use a car to get anywhere in the city. Also, it was very close to the Mall, which made doing "touristy" things very easy. Especially nice this spring and seeing all the cherry blossoms! The neighborhood is great. I always felt safe walking my dog around. It has a real neighborhood-feel within a large city, and I felt at home rather quickly.
CHS was very flexible and accommodating with my stay when it was extended and also were experienced working with government per diem and lodging rates, which was very helpful. I would (and will) recommend them for anyone needing an extended stay in the city.
