406 East Capitol St NE #1: This charming ground floor studio - two blocks from the Capitol, five blocks to orange,blue, and red line metro - has a terrific open layout and gets lots of light. It's the ground floor apartment in an 1860s detached townhouse, with large windows overlooking a private patio, landscaped gardens, and the quintessential Capitol Hill streetscape of prestigious East Capitol Street.

It's an ideal location, as this block also contains two corner grocery stores, a pharmacy, a diner, a used bookstore, and a cleaners.

Apartment 1 is the main floor, in the front of the building, with a large bay window overlooking grand East Capitol Street. Terrific location, beautiful block. Corner grocery is literally two doors down. This is an unusually large studio, larger than many Jr 1 bedrooms, at about 450 square feet.

Tenant Comments

When I first arrived in Washington in 2006 to work as a consultant I was housed in an unsatisafactory housing situation that was far from work, transportation and amenities.

I did a bit of searching and footwork to find a location that would address these concerns. The Capitol Hill area addressed all, being close to work, transportation and amenities. The apartment on East Capitol Street is ideally located and it is as good as it looks in the pictures. I find the apartment is efficient, comfortably furnished and goes well beyond the minimum standards for a furnished apartment.

The neighborhood is quiet, charming and only a few blocks to the US Capitol. The landlord lives close by and deservedly takes great pride in the area and his apartments. I have rented from Capitol Hill Stay for over two years and lived in several apartments and seen several others. They all reflect the same quality and I highly recommend the apartments managed by Capitol Hill Stay.

Unit #1 at 406 East Capitol was a wonderful place to call home for the time I was there. My only regret is that I couldn't stay longer. In the hustle and bustle of Washington, DC, it was nice to have such a cozy and comfortable place. After too many business trips staying in nice but generic hotel rooms, it was so nice to stay in a place with such unique and classy character. The attention to detail and feeling of peace in the property was amazing - fantastic wood floors, beautiful crown molding, modern kitchen appliances (loved the gas stove), washer & dryer in the unit, just to mention a few of the many great characteristics. I loved the big paned windows in the front of the unit - nice to let the natural light in during the daytime. A great balance of all that you're looking for when you want to relax in a space. Antique armoires to a flat-screen TV with digital cable. Especially loved the bistro set right in the front yard - ate many meals out there, taking in the neighborhood and the passers-by. Would highly recommend this space to anyone really looking for a home away from home while in DC.

CHS is a class act! I have stayed in two different CHS apartments. 406 East Capitol is a homey, nicely appointed studio conveniently located next to a great corner store and bikeshare station. 623 A street Unit 3 is a simply beautiful space, with elegant, comfortable furnishings and the feel of a large apartment.

The common thread is that all had the little extras that you'd normally either miss, or go out to buy if you were staying a while; cooking utensils, wine glasses, plenty of clean linens, etc. are all there. The Capitol apartments are tastefully decorated to fit the historic neighborhood. The beds are high quality and comfortable. Most importantly, CHS is incredibly responsive to any small issue that might arise, and will work with you to find the space that suits your needs. Brian answers emails quickly, and handles the business end with courtesy and efficiency.

The Capitol Hill neighborhood is convenient to Eastern Market, which is great for fresh produce in season, and a quick bike ride or metro trip into downtown. If you are going to be in D.C. and want to be close to town, but in a nice quiet elegant neighborhood in a home-like setting, go with CHS!

Excellent. Perfect location on East Capitol. Quiet neighborhood feel with the Capitol and Mall four blocks away. Safe as could be. Bike Share stand outside the door and Metro stop was an easy walk.

The apartment is small but has an open floor plan and plenty of light. Brian and Andre were great hosts. I would recommend Capitol Hill Stay for either short or long stays in DC particularly for people who want to get a better feel for the city than an impersonal condo complex can provide.
